Nissan Technical Centre Europe and Sonatus

Nissan Technical Centre Europe (NTCE) and Sonatus are working together to bring AI-powered data collection and root-cause analysis into pre-start-of-production (SOP) vehicle validation.

NTCE, Nissan’s primary R&D hub for its global regions, uses the Sonatus Fastlane™ Platform to give engineers the right vehicle data from the moment a fault occurs. Fastlane™ Copilot, Sonatus’s plug-in hardware for test vehicles, connects through a dedicated  harness without vehicle disassembly and brings Fastlane™ Collector and Fastlane™ Edge into existing prototype programs. Fastlane™ Insight then analyzes the data captured in the cloud against NTCE’s own specifications, CAN maps, and diagnostic databases to identify the most likely root cause, citing the sources behind each conclusion. The result is a reduction in investigation time from two weeks to two days and in vehicle set-up from over an hour to just minutes.

Following a successful proof of concept and 12 months of joint engineering, NTCE is making the Fastlane Platform part of how it validates future vehicle programs.

Smarter Validation at the Source: How Nissan is Putting AI to Work in Vehicle Testing

As vehicles become more software-defined, testing and validation keep getting harder. Nissan Technical Centre Europe (NTCE), Nissan’s primary R&D hub for its global European and AMIEO markets, validates new models from the first prototypes through the start of production, a window of about 12 months. Every new software feature adds interactions among ECUs, and more issues now cross system boundaries.

Digitizing Validation: How Nissan Is Catching Quality Issues Before Customers Ever See Them

Nissan Technical Centre Europe (NTCE) has about 12 months, from the first full-scale prototypes to start of production (SOP), to find and fix every software issue that could reach a customer. The deadline is fixed. The software that needs to be validated by that deadline keeps growing.
