Enabling Real-Time Tire Intelligence through Embedded AI and Physics models
![]()
Traditional tire monitoring relies on basic pressure and temperature data, failing to capture real-world driving conditions. Because of this blind spot, tires are often driven unsafely with undetected wear, or replaced far too early—with only 14% actually reaching their true end of life.
Discover how Michelin and Sonatus have partnered to transform the tire from a passive mechanical component into an active, intelligent element of the software-defined vehicle through:
- Sensorless Tire Intelligence: Traditional sensors often lead to premature tire replacement, with only 14% of tires reaching their true end of life. Michelin solves this using software models (SmartLoad and SmartWear) that calculate real-time tire wear and load using existing vehicle data.
- Sonatus’s AI-enabled Platform: Michelin relies on Sonatus Collector AI to gather targeted driving data to calibrate these models, and uses Sonatus AI Director to securely deploy, monitor, and update the models directly on the vehicle’s computers.
- High Accuracy and ROI: The software tracks tire wear within <0.75 mm and vehicle mass within ±5%. This precision results in safer driving, lower fleet maintenance costs, and new after-sales service opportunities for automakers.
